Taverna @ Google Summer of Code 2011

Google Summer of Code is now at the stage for students to apply to work on a project. See http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2011 for details.

There are several Taverna-related projects available:

  1. Develop techniques for packaging Java libraries for Debian, describe and apply them – for packaging bioinformratics tools, such as Taverna, as Debian packages.
  2. Improve the interplay of several tools for preclinical research and write respective tutorials – to “plan genetic cloning experiments with Taverna”.
  3. Remote execution through BOINC with Debian dependencies – to “allow BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) projects to execute arbitrary binaries that ship with Debian” using Taverna.
  4. Build a prototype search engine plugin to Taverna to extract information about existing services to help scientists efficiently find suitable services and help them construct new workflows.
